Plant City - The Chris Welbon Karate Clubs tournament
team
recently returned from the AAU Karate National Tournament with
great results.
Seven out of 22 team members who qualified were able to make the
trip to Winston-Salem, N.C., where more than 1800 competed.

Not many people can say they are living their dream,
but
Chris Welbon can easily make that statement.
It started as a kid with a passion for karate, and in high school
he started teaching for his instructor, Mark Pinner. His instructor
started a class in Plant City at South Florida Baptist Hospital,
which Chris Welbon took over for him.

"Third in the nation" is the title that was recently
bestowed
upon Amy and Laura Booher at the Amateur Athletic Union National
Karate Championships. These twin 13-year-olds competed in kata
(an event that focuses on the technique and intensity each competitor
uses to complete karate stances), and sparring (a form of Japanese
fighting).
