QiGong
What is QiGong?
It is an ancient Chinese exercise practice for health and longevity.Co-instructors Bob Abbenzeller and Mia Hamel are happy to share this exercise practice with you! We are certified in Supreme Science QiGong and we have experience in Chunyi Lin’s Spring Forest and Master Wu modalities. As we deepen our knowledge of the practices, we are using the energy to promote healing.
How is the practice done?
It is a combination of controlled breathing and slow, graceful arm and torso movements that collect and direct Life Force Energy or ‘chi’ to the body. This may be felt as a magnetic energy field or a static charge around the body. You may feel pulsating energy in your abdomen or warmth in your hands as the beneficial ‘chi’ circulates around and through your body. It is FUN to feel this healthful energy that we had no awareness of!
What are the benefits of QiGong?
There are almost too many to list! Increased energy, improved mental attitude and concentration, weight loss, better circulation to the brain and extremities, toning of the muscles, better digestion and smaller waist size, corrected posture, better balance – and often there are unanticipated improvements in blood pressure and other disease conditions.
I am not very athletic and I do not want to risk an injury. Is this a good sport for me?
Yes, the movements are slow and precise and there is little risk of injury. It is easy to do and learn. Even with no prior experience and when your movements are not yet perfected, you will still notice the benefits. If there are too many repetitions for you in this gentle sport, you can just stop in place for a short rest and then start back up again on the next breath.
Do I need special clothes?
No, any non constricting leisure clothing with comfortable flat sports shoes is fine.
I can’t stand up for very long. Can QiGong be done seated?
Yes, even a person with limited mobility can get benefit from the abdominal breathing and visualizations.
